Amy Leach’s work has been published in A Public Space, Tin House, Orion, the Los Angeles Review, and many others. She has been recognized with the Whiting Writers’ Award, Best American Essays selections, a Rona Jaffe Foundation Award, and a Pushcart Prize. She plays bluegrass, teaches English, and lives in Chicago. Things That Are is her first book published by Milkweed Editions.

If your favorite author came to Minnesota, who would it be and what bar would you take him/her to?

As I don’t think my favorite author is a big barfly and I am not familiar with the great bars of Minnesota, I’d probably take her on a bike ride around a lake and we could be lakeflies.

What was your first favorite book?

I remember nearly smothering in a sleeping bag trying to read Jane Eyre by flashlight all night when I was nine or so.

Let’s say Fahrenheit 451 comes to life, which book would you become in order to save it from annihilation?

What is one book you haven’t read but want to read before you die?

I want to read The Divine Comedy in Italian.
