Summer Reading Project

If you’re the type of booknerd who loves a good project OR you’re the type who wants to go back and visit all those young adult books you cut your nerdy teeth on, I’d like to point you in the direction of Girl Detective’s “Shelf Discovery” Summer 2012 reading project.

Very briefly she describe the project as: “In the summer of 2012, we’re going to read a chapter a week from Shelf Discovery: The Teen Classics We Never Stopped Reading. Each of its 10 chapters has a theme, and essays on several books. In addition to the chapter, read one of the books from the chapter, OR a book from your reading past OR a modern YA or adult book, OR a genre book (sci fi, fantasy, mystery, etc.) that fits the theme. OR don’t read a book, just read along, or reminisce on the ones that you did.”

I’m in. I bought the Skurnick book ago a few years ago so I could do a project just like Girl Detective has spelled out. I, of course, got distracted by a shiny object and promptly forgot about it. Now, I’m so in for this one. It sounds like so much and I’ve always been a bit envious of those people who read Infinite Jest together that ones summer. Also, sometime in August we’ll be discussing My Sweet Audrina, which is my all-time favorite V.C. Andrews book (even more than Petals on the Wind).

Join us, won’t you? You can get the schedule and all the details over at Girl Detective.

Me too! I’ve recently re-read a lot of these just for the fun of it. It’ll be nice to talk about it with other people.

I was kicking this around, too. I love reading projects.

I like reading projects that are structured by something other than my incredibly flaky whim.
