Plan ahead, next week is jam-packed with lit events

I made a crack Tuesday while waiting for Colson Whitehead to read, that it was like a literary Super Tuesday in the Twin Cities. That night, at various venues around town, Tao Lin, J.C. Hallman, Colson Whitehead, and Tim Gunn were reading (though Gunn might just have been signing books). Plus, Books & Bars (the super popular book club) was meeting at Bryant-Lake Bowl.

Well, Super Tuesday’s got nothing on this upcoming week in the Twin Cities. Just like some people like to have a sort of State Fair Food strategy before they crack the crust on their first corndog, you might want to plan ahead for cramming this much literary fun in one week. Here’s a quick breakdown.

Monday
5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Graywolf Press Tweet-up at Grumpy’s Downtown
6:30 p.m. Laurie Hertzel at the Mounds View library
7 p.m. mnLIT winners' reading ? hosted by miniStories juror Dennis Cass, Red Stag Supperclub
7:30 p.m. Per Petterson at the Guthrie (more info)

Tuesday
7 p.m. John Sandford at the Barnes & Noble HarMar
7 p.m. Jonathan Franzen at The Fitzgerald Theater. This one is sold out, so all the cool kids are going to:
7:30 p.m. Gary Shteyngart at Magers & Quinn

Wednesday
4 p.m. Wendy Webb at the UofM Bookstore
6 p.m. Nigel Barker (the dashing photog who sits on Tyra’s judging panel on America’s Next Top Model) at the Barnes & Noble Mall of America
7 p.m. John Sandford at Once Upon a Crime

Thursday
7 p.m. Mary Lethert Wingerd at Birchbark Books
7 p.m. Nancy Pearl at the Southdale Library in Edina
7:30 p.m. Steve Brezenoff at Magers & Quinn (I’ll be reviewing his book The Absolute Value of -1 on Monday and he’s answering the 6 questions we hardly ever ask on Tuesday)
7 – 10 p.m. BookIt Party featuring MN Reads’ favorites John Jodzio, Norah Labiner, and Jeff Kamin.

Friday
7 p.m. Nancy Pearl at the Chanhassen High School

Did I forget anything? Where are you going to be next week? I’m hitting Magers & Quinn on Tuesday and Thursday, and depending on how work is treating me, the Graywolf Tweetup on Monday. How fun!

Here’s a bizarre one that could easily inspire me to drive 6 hours round trip: Billy Collins on Saturday at Bemidji High School. It’s a whole day of workshops, etc., ending with a reading that night.
