6 questions we always ask — Girl Detective

Girl Detective, is one of those fabulous blogs that is tough to identify — part litblog, part foodblog, part momblog, and part indefinable awesomeness. It’s written by the Girl Detective, a Minneapolis writer and mother of two. The fact that she reads voraciously and finds time to update her Web site never ceases to amaze me. You know what else amazes me? The books she chooses to read. She jumps from the latest graphic novel I hadn’t even heard of yet to Crime & Punishment and back again. So nice.

What book(s) are you currently reading?
Will by Christoper Rush and Macbeth by Shakespeare.

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who?
Yep. Billy Prior in Pat Barker’s Regeneration trilogy, and Ramsey Acton in Lionel Shriver’s Post-Birthday World.

If your favorite author came to Minnesota, who would it be and what bar would you take him/her to?
Many of my favorite authors live in Minnesota; that’s one of the reasons I moved here 10 years ago. I have a literary crush on Michael Chabon, so it would probably be him. I’m a food geek, not a bar gal; whenever someone visits, I try to make sure they have a phenomenal restaurant experience. I’d choose someplace that specializes in local food. Restaurant Alma if he were paying; Brasa if it’s me!

What was your first favorite book?
The Practical Princess by Jay Williams and ill. by Friso Henstra.

Let’s say Fahrenheit 451 comes to life, which book would you become in order to save it from annihilation?
Possession by A.S. Byatt. It’s got a little bit of everything–history, mystery, religion, romance and poetry.

What is one book you haven’t read but want to read before you die?
Fahrenheit 451!
